Meta’s Twitter rival, Threads, just rolled out two big updates: a shiny new “media” tab for photos/videos and the ability to tag people in photos — basically playing catch-up with X (Twitter) and Bluesky, who added similar video features days earlier.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri called the media tab a “long overdue” fan request, letting users browse all your Threads pics and clips in one spot. Translation: Threads is finally getting serious about visual content to take on TikTok (you know, the app the U.S. tried to ban).
Oh, and last week’s “markup” tool (think: quote tweets but fancier) is now live globally, too.
Why It Matters:
- User Growth: Zuckerberg dropped a flex — Threads hit 320 million monthly users, up from 300 million in December.
- Bluesky’s Slump: Meanwhile, rival Bluesky’s growth slowed to a crawl (under 10% MoM in Dec vs. 189% in Nov), per Similarweb.
- Meta’s Strategy: Throw all the features at the wall — post scheduling, fediverse follows, custom feeds, AI trend summaries… and now media tabs.
