Takealot jobs

Takealot, South Africa’s leading e-commerce retailer, is currently recruiting for a wide range of positions, including roles in software engineering, marketing, and data analysis.

As one of South Africa’s largest online platforms, Takealot also ranks impressively on a global scale. According to Similarweb’s analytics, Takealot.com was the 10th most visited website in South Africa in January 2025 and ranked 2,154th worldwide. Given the estimated 1.13 billion websites globally, this is a significant achievement.

Additionally, Takealot.com holds the 96th spot among the world’s most popular e-commerce marketplaces.

Despite the entrance of Amazon into the South African market in May 2024, Takealot has managed to maintain its dominance. As of January 2025, Takealot.com recorded an average of 19.1 million monthly visits over a three-month period, far exceeding Amazon.co.za’s 4.5 million visits.

Takealot operates through two main business divisions: the primary Takealot.com marketplace and the Mr D on-demand delivery service. Previously, the company also owned Superbalist, a fast-fashion clothing retailer, which was sold last year to a group of retail and private equity investors. This move was driven by increasing competition from Chinese e-commerce giants like Shein, which have a strong foothold in the clothing sector.

Superbalist’s workforce represented a relatively small portion of the Takealot Group, employing between 200 and 300 people at the time of its sale. Currently, Takealot employs around 6,500 individuals across its headquarters in Cape Town, three major distribution centers, 90 branch offices, and 55 pickup points. This figure does not include the 15,000 Takealot and Mr D drivers who work as independent contractors.

Takealot describes its ideal employees as innovative, energetic, customer-focused, and dynamic. The company seeks individuals who align with its mission to become Africa’s leading e-commerce platform.

“We work hard, take ownership, and collaborate in teams to find solutions. We welcome feedback and new ideas to improve,” the company states on its Careers page. “Our culture is about action, not just ideas—execution is key.”

Takealot currently has 39 open positions, while Mr D is hiring for 14 additional roles. Mr D’s job openings are primarily in marketing, sales, and retail, whereas Takealot is seeking professionals in software engineering and technology-driven roles within its delivery and supply chain operations. Additionally, two positions are available in the company’s advertising division.
