Toyota Land Cruiser 300

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has quietly undergone a few specification updates for 2025. Here’s what has changed for South Africa, along with a look at the latest local pricing.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 range in South Africa has received several specification updates, with all models in the local lineup gaining some additional standard features.

As before, the local J300-series range—introduced in September 2021 as a successor to the long-running Land Cruiser 200—comprises five derivatives. The special-edition variant reported on in mid-2024 has since come and gone.

The exterior styling remains unchanged, while the two available V6 powertrains—a 3.3-liter turbodiesel engine (225 kW/700 Nm) and a 3.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine (305 kW/650 Nm), both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive—carry over without modifications.

What Has Changed?

All derivatives now feature “longitudinal vehicle control,” which Toyota SA Motors describes as a system that helps regulate the vehicle’s cruising speed. Additionally, the Japanese automaker states that the under-engine cover is now equipped with an “insulator.”

The Land Cruiser 300 3.3D GX-R, which serves as the entry-level model, benefits from the most notable upgrades. The number of audio system speakers has increased from four to six, while it also gains an electrochromatic rear-view mirror, wireless smartphone charging, a front USB charger, and Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select system. As a result, the GX-R’s price has risen by R31,300, bringing it to R1,512,100.

Meanwhile, the ZX and GR-Sport variants see a more modest price increase of either R3,400 or R3,500, depending on the derivative. These models now come with an additional HDMI port up front and have been upgraded from Toyota Safety Sense 2.0—a suite of active safety and driver assistance systems—to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Furthermore, the Parking Support Brake Control function now includes pedestrian detection.
