Apple has officially delayed the launch of its enhanced version of Siri, which promises a more personalized experience with improved contextual understanding and the ability to perform actions within apps. The company confirmed this news in a statement shared with Daring Fireball.
Apple did not specify an exact timeline for the rollout but mentioned that the updates would be introduced “in the coming year.” Below is the company’s full statement:
“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like Type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features, and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”
A more advanced and capable Siri was originally one of the core elements of Apple’s vision for Apple Intelligence. When the company first revealed its plans, it promised that Siri wouldn’t just recognize what’s happening on a user’s device but would also take actions within apps on their behalf.
So far, Apple has introduced several updates to Siri, including the ability to type requests instead of speaking them, improved knowledge of Apple products, a redesigned activation animation, and ChatGPT integration.
However, the development of this upgraded Siri has reportedly faced challenges. Bloomberg was the first to report on the delays, stating that Apple’s ambitious plan to integrate Siri with a more advanced language model—one that would significantly enhance its capabilities—is still several years away from completion.
