DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Firmware Update Brings Enhanced Zoom, Smoother Focus, and Pro-Level Color

DJI has rolled out a new firmware update (v01.06.08.04) for its popular Osmo Pocket 3, introducing improved 2x zoom, smoother focus transitions, and professional-grade color enhancements. These upgrades aim to elevate the camera’s performance for both casual users and professionals looking for greater creative control.

New Mid-Tele Mode: Lossless 2x Zoom Without Quality Loss

The Osmo Pocket 3 comes equipped with a standard 20mm lens and a toggle wheel for digital zoom. However, with this latest update, DJI has introduced Mid-Tele Mode, which provides a lossless 2x zoom at a 40mm equivalent focal length. Unlike traditional digital zoom that degrades image quality, this new mode preserves the sharpness and resolution of 4K Ultra HD footage.

That said, there are some limitations to using the 2x zoom:

  • When in Mid-Tele Mode, the maximum ISO is capped at 1,600.
  • The mode does not support ActiveTrack or night mode.
  • The 2x zoom function is not available when shooting in HLG color mode.

For users who want additional zoom capabilities, digital zoom can still be applied on top of the new 2x zoom. By enabling Mid-Tele Mode first, users can then use the joystick to scroll further in or out.

More Optical Choices for Creator Combo Users

Those who own the Creator Combo version of the Osmo Pocket 3, which includes a snap-on wide lens adapter, now have even more flexibility when choosing focal lengths. With the firmware update, users can switch between:

  • 15mm (with the wide-angle adapter attached)
  • 20mm (default lens, no adapter)
  • 40mm (with the new 2x lossless zoom mode enabled)

This expanded range allows creators to seamlessly transition between ultra-wide, standard, and mid-telephoto perspectives without sacrificing image quality.

Smoother Focus Transitions with Breathing Compensation

Another major improvement in this update is enhanced focus performance. DJI has introduced breathing compensation, which results in smoother and more seamless focus shifts. This is particularly beneficial for users who enjoy focus pulls or need precise focus adjustments while tracking moving subjects. The natural-looking focus transitions provide a more cinematic and professional touch to videos.

D-Log M Support in Webcam Mode for Improved Color Depth

For those who use the Osmo Pocket 3 as a webcam for live streaming, video conferencing, or content creation, DJI has added D-Log M (10-bit) color support. This upgrade significantly enhances:

  • Color vibrancy and saturation
  • Dynamic range, allowing for better highlights and shadows
  • Editing flexibility, with richer file details for color grading

This means users can now capture higher-quality footage with improved post-production capabilities, making the Osmo Pocket 3 a more powerful tool for professional streaming and video content.

DJI Mimo App Enhancements and Bug Fixes

The update isn’t just for the camera—the DJI Mimo app has also received improvements with its latest version 2.2.2. New features include:

  • The ability to extract still frames from recorded videos and save them as live photos.
  • Support for background file downloads, making content transfers more seamless.

Additionally, both the Osmo Pocket 3 firmware and the DJI Mimo app have undergone bug fixes and performance enhancements, ensuring a more stable and reliable user experience.

With these latest updates, DJI continues to refine the Osmo Pocket 3, making it a more powerful and versatile tool for videographers, content creators, and casual users alike.
