Telkom has officially announced a series of tariff adjustments that will affect its consumer and small to medium business (SMB) fixed broadband and voice services. These price changes will take effect on April 1, 2025, and will impact DSL, fibre, and fixed-voice services.
Breakdown of the Price Increases
- Consumer and SMB DSL services: 12% increase
- Consumer and SMB fibre tariffs: Average 6% increase
- Fixed-voice services:
- Legacy products: 12% increase
- Current products: 6% increase
- Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) products: 6% increase
Why Is Telkom Raising Prices?
According to Telkom, these adjustments are necessary due to rising operational costs and external economic factors that have significantly impacted businesses across various industries.
“South Africa continues to experience economic challenges such as rising inflation, increasing energy costs, and a weakened exchange rate. These factors drive up the cost of service delivery, particularly in industries reliant on infrastructure, technology, and operational investments,” Telkom stated.
As a result, the company emphasized that adjusting tariffs is essential to maintaining service quality while navigating these economic pressures.
Telkom’s Commitment to Customers
Lunga Siyo, CEO of Telkom Consumer, acknowledged that these price increases might be difficult for customers but reassured them that the company is committed to maintaining high-quality service.
“We understand that price increases can be challenging for our customers. However, these adjustments are necessary to ensure we continue providing reliable, high-quality services in an evolving economic landscape,” said Siyo.
“We have worked hard to keep these increases as low as possible while maintaining our value-driven offerings.”
Despite these changes, Telkom insists that it remains one of the most competitive service providers in South Africa and continues to invest in infrastructure and customer experience.
“Telkom remains committed to being a trusted partner in connectivity. We are continuously investing in infrastructure and customer experience to ensure we provide seamless and efficient services to South Africans nationwide,” Siyo added.
